Abstract

Objective of the research is to predict seasonal river flow discharge from the several years previous data. Stochastic statistical theory of Markov's lag-1 was used to analyze the data. Modification has been needed for changing the number of total seasonal river flow from 2 to 24 in one year serial observation. The total 24 rivers flow observations based on a half-month time interval observation per year. Those interval based on the assumption irrigation interval has been practicing at the tertiary level. River flow discharge data from 1993 to 2003 of Cikunten and Cimulu river in Tasikmalaya (West Java) were used during the research. The model prediction shows that there is similarity between real flow and synthetic flow of the river from time to time observation. Therefore, application of modified Markov's lag-1 is valid for stochastic hydrological analysis in term of maintaining

Abstract

The geographical condition of Yogyakarta Special Region is varied from the mountainous plateau of the Southern part (Gunung Kidul) and the northern part (Sleman) as well as the boundary of the sea level along the southern part of the region. This condition causes the great variability of the amount of rainfall in this region. Related to this, the study aims at analyzing the rainfall data to determine the cluster of the raingauge stations based on the similar characteristics of the rainfall. The data needed for the analysis is the 15 years daily rainfall data from 67 raingauge stations including the location of the stations which are unevenly distributed in 4 districts available in Yogyakarta, namely: Gunung Kidul, Sleman, Kulon Progo, and Bantul. The Principal Component Analysis was used to analyze the data to determine the cluster of the raingauge stations. The results indicated that, by applying the similarity of 57 - 60%, the characteristics of rainfall in Yogyakarta could be categorized into 7 clusters.

Abstract

The world demand of raw-silk provides a great opportunity to the development of raw-silk production in Yogyakarta. Recently, only 21% out of the overall world demand of raw-silk is fulfilled, whereas Indonesia contributes only 0.1% per year. The main problem is the lack of quality of raw-silk. The optimum growth of silkworm depends on micro environments, i. e. temperature, humidity, aeration, and light intensity. The research was aimed, to apply an automated -"on/or control technology in the silkworm rearing environmental monitoring. The result expected is high-grade quality of cocoon. In the research, two different conditions of silkworm growing environments were compared: controlled environment (in the rearing box) and normal environment. Then, from third instar (silkworm's growth stage) to cocoon's stage (final stage or fifth instar), temperature and air humidly were set on 24°C - 26°C and 70% - 80% 'respectively. While, Aeration and light intensity were ranged 0.1 - 0.3 m/s and 15 - 30 lux for all instar stages (constant) respectively. The result indicated that there was an increasing the percentage of cocoon skin's grade in the controlled rearing environment (19.66%), compared to the result of normal rearing environment (18.56%), also there was significantly different result on the thickness of the cocoon produced

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to determine aeration rate and substrate concentration of pure cellulose to produce maximum glucose by Trichoderma reesei QM 9414 at 30 °C, and agitation at 150 rpm; 2) to study the kinetics of pure cellulose fermentation by Trichoderma reesei QM 9414 to glucose and its implication upon fermentation of the lignin free rice straw. The experiment was arranged in factorial randomized complete design consisted of three levels of aeration (1,00 vvm; 1,5 vvm; 2,0 vvm) and three levels of substrate concentration (0,75 %; 1,00 %; 1,25 % w/v). The results showed that at the exponential phase that the average specific growth of Trichoderma reesei QM 9414 was 0,05374 hour-I, the maximum glucose product concentration of pure cellulose was 0.1644 gri ,and the oxygen transfer was 0,0328 mg L-1 hour-i. According to t-test, the kinetics of pure cellulose fermentation model just the same as the lignin 'free rice straw fermentation. The enzymes produced by Trichoderma reesei QM 9414 in pure cellulose fermentation media followed the Michaelis-Menten model. The enzyme kinetic parameters were the maximum growth Michaelis-Menten constant hour rate was 37x10-3 hour-1 and was 1/2 maximum p 17,5x10.3. The volumetric oxyfen transfer (K,) using rice straw was 0,0337 mg. hour . The value of KIA, could be used for conversion from bioreactor at laboratory scale to commercial scale design.

Abstract

Carrageenan Eucheuma cottonii is a species of seaweed having high economic values that is grows in Indonesia. The main constraint \which needs to be concerned were decreasing of carrageenan rendement values affected the quality and quantity in downstream industry. The aim of this study was to find out optimal carrageenan rendement with NaOH concentrate variation from Karimun Jawa and Madura areas. The method applied experimental using factorial plan design. The treatments given were the different location, the color variation of of E. cottonii and variation NaOH concentration to extract the carrageenan. The result shows that different carrageenan quality and carrageenan contain of red and green E. cottonii from different sample taking location. The application of NaOH as much as 5% for carrageenan extraction produced the highest yield, gel strength and gelling temperature but gives lowest viscosity.

Abstract

Oxidation can alter the flavor and nutritional quality of foods and produces toxic and color compounds, which make foods less acceptable or unacceptable to consumers. Consequently, lipid oxidation has been extensively studied in bulk fats and oils, and there is a fairly good understanding of the mechanisms and the factors that affect oxidation in such systems. On the other hand, lipid oxidation is still not well understood in systems in which the fat is dispersed as emulsion droplets, although a large number of foods exit partially or entirely in the form of emulsions. This article reviews discusses the major factors that influence of the mechanism and controlling lipid oxidation in 0/W (oil-in-water) emulsions.
